Retooling teachers

STI through the PAS project produces science instructional materials. For these materials to be efficiently and effectively used, STI trains science teachers on how best they can use them to conduct practical and learner-centered lessons.

Our team of experienced trainers builds the capacity of science teachers in using practical and relevant methodologies, creative and fun teaching, and a “hands-on” approach that stimulates learners’ creativity. The training is conducted through workshops, continued in-service training, and seminars. During training, teachers are guided on how to use the available materials to engage students in the teaching and learning process. Together with NCDC and UNEB, STI retools and mentors teachers on the use of practical hands-on activities and projects in the teaching/learning of science.

Together with NCDC and UNEB specialists, we train teachers in the following areas:

Effective use of practical and hands-on teaching of science and mathematics.

Use of locally available materials in the environment in the teaching of science and mathematics.

How to develop a standard examination and its marking guide

Standard grading criteria.

Curriculum interpretation and implementation.

Evaluation and assessment as per UNEB standards
